The "I Want My MTV!" slogan harks back to MTV’s launch in 1981, when an MTV music executive convinced lead vocalist of the Stones, Mick Jagger, to be featured in the brand’s launch campaign. Jagger agreed to shout into the camera “I Want My MTV!” for the commercial.
